Taking a PhD break to explore Alberta, July 2018.

Hello! I’m Alison, the owner of Yoga For Every Body. My day job is teaching music in a Norfolk secondary school. I have lived here for much of my adult life and am proud to call Norfolk home. Recently, I took a break from teaching to study for a PhD and it was during this time that I trained as a yoga teacher. I had done yoga on and off for a long time, and knew that it benefited my own mental and physical health, but it had never occurred to me that I could be a yoga teacher (that’s a topic for a future blog post).

My teacher training with Mothership School of Yoga was a fantastic experience and gave me the confidence to create Yoga For Every Body. Whilst taking Mothership’s 200hr RYT course with an additional 50hr Yin qualification, I was writing my PhD thesis addressing sociology and secondary school music education - specifically, how class, gender and race affect access to music education in England. Both experiences have influenced my current practice as a music teacher, and both experiences have increased my belief that yoga should be accessible and inclusive.
